Life Skills Education for Adolescents: Need and Significance in the Modern Era

Abstract

Adolescence is a period of stress and conflict. At this time intellectual, physical, social and emotional changes take place within the child. It is high time when the child can utilize his capabilities and skills but due to some problems, he is not able to do so. There are many reasons for this as- poverty, population explosion, drug abuse, online fraud, alcoholism, juvenile delicacy etc. In the world moving towards modernity violence, conflict, stress etc are increasing very fast within children. Frustration, stress, anger, antisocial behaviors are growing rapidly as a new problem for children. In adolescence stage the child is more involved with technology than with people, due to which the child does not express the conflict going on within him in front of anyone, due to which he goes into depression and slowly he starts feeling suicidal thoughts. The only solution to bring children out of all these is education because Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world. The education must be life skill education. The basic activities of life skill education will meet the need and demand of today's youth in the society. Life skill helps children to deal with their mental, emotional and physical problems in a healthy way. This paper emphasizes the need and significance of today's youth. Life skill education helps children to develop emotional and social thinking in them and makes them skilled, efficient and responsible citizens.
